Job Description
Job Summary:
- Position: Sterile Processing Tech (Evenings)
- Location: Rochester NY
- Schedule: 40 hours/week, including evenings, weekends, holidays, on-call/callback as needed
Key Responsibilities:
- Inspect, assemble, package, and sterilize surgical instrument pans, procedural trays, technical equipment, and case carts.
- Select appropriate packaging and sterilization methods, consulting with Processing Manager as needed.
- Examine instruments for cleanliness, proper assembly, and function; ensure correct instrument counts per protocols.
- Operate sterilization equipment (steam sterilizers, ultrasonic washers, etc.), monitor gauges, load/unload sterilizers, and perform basic maintenance.
- Ensure sterility by preparing cultures, interpreting test results, and completing required documentation.
- Decontaminate instruments and equipment per established procedures to prevent cross-contamination.
- Set up, clean, and disinfect decontamination equipment and work areas; properly handle infectious waste and linen.
- Receive, check, and store supplies from vendors and hospital areas; document stock and report discrepancies.
- Maintain inventory par levels, fill orders for surgical supplies, deliver supplies, and keep accurate equipment records.
- Perform daily quality assurance checks on sterile supplies, stock levels, sterility dates, and procedure carts.
- Maintain critical documentation (biologicals, sterilizer load sheets, etc.).
Required Qualifications:
- Certified Sterile Processor (HSPA or CBSPD)
- BLS (American Heart Association)
- Minimum 3 years of sterile processing experience
- Experience in large hospitals (500+ beds)
- At least 6 months of travel SPT experience
- Two professional references from recent assignments
Preferred Qualifications:
- Level 1 trauma center experience
- Certified Endoscope Reprocessor (CER Cert)
- Experience with orthopedic trays
Equipment Used:
- Sterilizers, heat sealers, ultrasonic washers, aerators, utensil washers, cart washers, Steris units, hand/power tools, calibration/repair equipment, Getinge's T-DOC barcode tracking system
