Title: Biomedical Equipment Engineer I (BMEE I)

Location: Buffalo-Rochester, NY (Field-Based)

Shift: Full-Time | Monday-Friday with Occasional Evenings, Weekends, and Overnight Travel

Compensation: $30-$40/hour DOE + Overtime

Travel: Up to 100% regional travel (typically within a 150-mile radius)

Position Description:

The Biomedical Equipment Engineer I (BMEE I) is responsible for installing, inspecting, troubleshooting, repairing, calibrating, and maintaining biomedical and medical diagnostic equipment used throughout hospitals and healthcare facilities. This field-based position supports a wide variety of medical devices while ensuring equipment operates safely, reliably, and in compliance with manufacturer and healthcare standards.

This role is ideal for technicians with experience in biomedical equipment, electronics, industrial maintenance, electromechanical systems, military technical specialties, or mechanical repair who enjoy working independently, solving technical problems, interacting with customers, and building a long-term career in Healthcare Technology Management.

Must-Have Skills, Experience, and Education:

• Associate Degree in:

  • Or equivalent technical experience
• Experience repairing:
  • Biomedical equipment
  • Electrical systems
  • Mechanical systems
  • Electromechanical equipment
• Knowledge of:
  • Preventive maintenance
  • Equipment calibration
  • Performance assurance testing
  • Inspection and repair procedures
• Ability to troubleshoot:
  • Electrical systems

  • Pneumatic systems
  • Hydraulic systems
  • Electronic systems
• Ability to read and interpret:
  • Wiring diagrams
  • Electrical schematics
  • Technical manuals
  • Service documentation
• Ability to distinguish wiring color codes and electrical components.
• Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office, databases, and email.
• Excellent customer service, communication, and organizational skills.
• Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and required vehicle insurance.
• Willingness to travel daily with occasional overnight, evening, and weekend travel.

Requirements:

• Install, inspect, troubleshoot, repair, calibrate, and maintain biomedical and medical diagnostic equipment.
• Perform preventive maintenance, electrical and mechanical safety inspections, calibration, and performance assurance testing.
• Complete manufacturer field modifications, recalls, corrective repairs, and service bulletins.
• Repair and maintain mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, electrical, and basic electronic systems.
• Document maintenance activities, inspections, repairs, and equipment history using the company CMMS.
• Utilize biomedical test equipment and diagnostic instruments to verify equipment performance.
• Perform root cause analysis to diagnose equipment failures and implement corrective actions.
• Communicate directly with healthcare personnel regarding equipment status and repair recommendations.
• Train healthcare staff on proper equipment operation when required.
• Follow healthcare safety procedures, infection control protocols, and PPE requirements.
• Travel throughout the assigned territory to support customer equipment.

Nice-to-Have Skills, Experience, and Education:

• Biomedical equipment or medical device field service experience.
• Experience servicing therapeutic or diagnostic medical equipment.
• Experience using CMMS or service management software.
• Root Cause Analysis (RCA) experience.
• FDA-regulated healthcare industry experience.
• CBET certification or willingness to obtain certification.
• Experience training customers or end users.
• Military technical backgrounds including:
  • Army Biomedical Equipment Specialist (68A)
  • Navy Electronics Technician (ET)
  • Navy Hospital Corpsman Biomedical Equipment Technician (BMET/NEC)
  • Air Force Biomedical Equipment Technician (4A2X1)
  • Avionics Technicians
  • Communications/Electronics Technicians
  • Nuclear Electronics Technicians
  • Industrial Maintenance Technicians
