Job Summary:

The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) at Montana State Hospital provides direct care and assistance to residents with daily living activities, including hygiene, vital signs monitoring, specimen collection, and emergency assistance. This role requires effective communication, accurate observation and reporting, and the ability to work cooperatively within a mental health facility environment. Candidates must have relevant experience in mental health, geriatric, or emergency care settings and demonstrate skills in de-escalation and resident support.

Responsibilities:

• Assist residents with basic hygiene such as bathing, oral hygiene, and dressing.
• Perform health-related tasks including taking and recording vital signs and collecting specimens.
• Assist residents in emergency situations as needed.
• Transport residents to appointments and provide assistance during transport.
• Communicate information clearly and follow instructions accurately both orally and in writing.
• Make accurate observations and report or record resident conditions and behaviors.
• Develop and maintain constructive and cooperative working relationships with team members.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Valid Montana Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) certification.
• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of 2 years of job-related experience in a mental health facility or related healthcare setting.
• Ability to communicate effectively and follow instructions explicitly.
• Experience working in psych facilities or similar environments.
• Basic knowledge of personal hygiene care.
• Ability to make accurate observations and maintain detailed records.
• Minimum 1 year of travel contract experience preferred.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) certification.
• Experience in geriatric care, hospice, or emergency/urgent care settings.
• Strong skills in de-escalation techniques.
• Additional certifications or experience related to behavioral health technician roles.

Special Considerations:

• Must be flexible with facility scheduling and able to work holidays.
• Experience and comfort working in adult psychiatric facilities required.
• Travel experience of 1-2 years is required.
• Compliance with facility policies including prescreening and submission of required documentation such as resume, references, and certifications.

Scheduling:

• Shift: 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM (overnight shift).
• Open shift availability and float pool participation preferred.
• Shift assignments are based on facility needs and candidate flexibility.
