Job Summary

The Safety Manager serves as the lead EHS professional for a large-scale, mission-critical construction project, overseeing safety compliance across construction, equipment installation, startup, and commissioning activities. This role leads daily safety operations, electrical safety, LOTO and Permit to Work programs, hazard assessments, inspections, incident investigations, training, and emergency preparedness while partnering with project teams, subcontractors, owners, and commissioning teams to maintain a proactive safety culture.

 

Job Description

  • Lead and oversee daily EHS activities across multiple trades and work areas throughout construction, startup, and commissioning.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, NFPA 70E, client requirements, and project-specific safety standards.
  • Provide safety oversight for electrical installations, energized work, and complex electrical systems.
  • Manage and audit the Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) program, including energy isolation, boundaries, procedures, and authorization.
  • Administer the Permit to Work (PTW) program for energized electrical work, confined space entry, hot work, excavation, critical lifts, and other high-risk activities.
  • Support safety planning for system energization, functional testing, integrated systems testing (IST), startup, and turnover to operations.
  • Conduct Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs), hazard assessments, and pre-task planning meetings.
  • Perform routine field inspections, safety audits, and compliance assessments and ensure timely corrective actions.
  • Investigate incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions and develop appropriate corrective and preventive actions.
  • Conduct safety orientations, toolbox talks, and training related to electrical safety, LOTO, fall protection, confined space, excavation, crane operations, and other construction hazards.
  • Partner with subcontractors to ensure compliance with safety requirements, permits, and safe work practices.
  • Track leading and lagging safety indicators and provide safety performance reports to project leadership and stakeholders.
  • Support emergency response planning, drills, and incident management activities.
  • Identify opportunities to improve safety performance, increase workforce engagement, and reduce exposure to high-risk activities.

 

Skills Required

  • Strong knowledge of construction EHS practices and OSHA requirements.
  • Experience supporting large-scale, mission-critical construction projects.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical safety and NFPA 70E, including energized work.
  • Experience managing LOTO and Permit to Work (PTW) programs.
  • Experience with construction and commissioning safety activities, including energization, functional testing, and integrated systems testing.
  • Strong understanding of JHAs, AHAs, hazard assessments, and pre-task planning.
  • Experience conducting field safety inspections, audits, and compliance assessments.
  • Strong incident investigation and root-cause analysis skills.
  • Knowledge of high-risk construction activities, including confined space, hot work, excavation, fall protection, and critical lifts.
  • Experience delivering safety orientations, toolbox talks, and workforce training.
  • Strong subcontractor management and safety coordination skills.
  • Ability to monitor and communicate leading and lagging safety performance indicators.
  • Strong emergency response and incident management capabilities.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with project management, subcontractors, owners, commissioning teams, and field personnel.

 

Education/Training/Certifications

  • High School Degree or GED

 

Pay Rate/Salary

  • Pay Rate $75 - $90/ hr (Actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as education, experience, skillset, and/or location)
